Core Beliefs

God has called every believer to be mature in Christ, and to do works of service for the Lord in the church and the world (Ephesians 4:9-13). The key to reaching this goal is the understanding that God has called every Christian to be a minister of God, to the church, and the world around him, and to grow to be more like Jesus every day. Every Christian should be a minister every day, and every Christian should be growing in the Lord every day.

In order to accomplish these twin goals, our church puts an emphasis on the maturing power of the Word of God, on the heartfelt worship of God, and on genuine fellowship with other believers.

During the weekend services, the Word of God is taught in a way that is accurate and applicable to every life. As we grow to understand God’s word, and correctly apply to our own situation; our attitudes, our goals, and our entire lives are changed. As we change, we become more active in doing the will of God as we are being changed to be like Him.

Time is given to respond to God through worship and proclamation. The Christian life is a two-way life. We not only hear from God, but we also must respond to Him. When we gather and praise Him together, the Spirit of God is with us is a special way to touch us in every area of our lives. We are changed by the Spirit to become more like Jesus, and the spirit enables us to have the strength, desire and ability to minister to others.

Genuine fellowship is experienced as we pray one for another and share with one another.

Being a Christian is not just a matter of our relationship with our Christian brothers and sisters. One of the changes that God makes in our character is that He causes us to put the needs of others above our own needs. As we love and serve one another in different ways, the non-believers in the world get a glimpse of what God’s eternal Kingdom is like.

Statement of Faith

The Scriptures, both the Old and New Testaments are God’s final, infallible, complete and authoritative Word to man. God’s Holy Spirit inspired men to write the scriptures. The scriptures direct us not only in our beliefs, but also in our daily lives.
The one true God has revealed Himself to man as the eternally self-existent “I AM,” the Creator of heaven and earth and the Redeemer of mankind. He has further revealed Himself as embodying the principles of relationship and association as Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
Jesus Christ
The Lord Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God. The Scriptures declare His virgin birth, His sinless life, His miracles, His substitutionary work on the cross, His bodily resurrection from the dead, and His exaltation to the right hand of God.
The Baptism of the Holy Spirit
All believers are entitled to and should earnestly seek the baptism of the Holy Spirit. The initial physical evidence of the baptism of the Holy Sprit is “speaking in tongues as the Holy Spirit Gives utterance”. This was the normal experience of the early Christian Church.
The Church
The Church is the Body of Christ. Each believer, born of the Spirit, is an integral part of the church. God is fulfilling His redemptive plan for mankind in the world today through His church.
Fallen Man
God created man good and upright. Man by voluntary transgression fell, resulting in not only physical death but also spiritual death, which is separation from God
Man’s only hope of redemption is through the shed blood of Jesus. Salvation results in both inward and outward transformation. At the time of salvation, the person believing in Christ becomes “a new creation”. As the believer grows to Christian maturity, the Holy Spirit works in the believer to conform them to the image of Christ.
The Scriptures command the ordinance of baptism by immersion. All who repent and believe on Christ as Savior and Lord are to be baptized. Jesus commands His followers to take the Lord’s Table (Holy Communion), consisting of the elements – bread and the cup.
God at Work
We believe that God, through His Holy Spirit, works in His church today the same way He did in the New Testament Church. We believe in and seek to see functioning in our church the spiritual gifts taught in scripture, including gifts of miracles and healings.
Return of Christ
We believe in the bodily return of Christ to the earth. He will return to rule as Lord, and those who have believed in Him will live with Him forever. Those who have not accepted Him as their Savior will be eternally separated from God.

What About...

International English Service is a part of the Gereja Sidang-Sidang Jemaat Allah di Indonesia (Assemblies of God of Indonesia) and is a part of the world wide fellowship of Assemblies of God churches with over 63 million members all over the world.
The deacons of the church meet on a regular basis to conduct the business of the church and to work with the pastoral staff in the ministry of the church. Four deacons are elected each year during the annual meeting from the membership of the church.
Discipleship is being updated.
Our worship style is contemporary and lively. We are not afraid to be solemn and still, but we are also not afraid to rejoice and shout for joy. Our worship time features a worship choir and a rotating team of lead worshipers and musical instrumentalist.
We have an active Outreach Ministry which coordinates our efforts in four main areas; relief and development, church planting, training and assisting ministers in difficult areas, and helping churches in difficult areas.
We believe that the kids of our church are not the church of tomorrow; they are a real part of the church today. Meeting their spiritual, relationship and emotional needs are a priority for all of us in the church, and not just the parents.
Everyone who attends International English Service is a member of the church.

Those members of IES who want to be a part of the decision making process in the church are welcome to become voting members of the church. Voting members are IES members who are willing to sign and abide by our Covenant of Membership, which includes accepting our statement of faith. Members are added during the year and the voting members of the church choose deacons during the annual meeting. The deacons conduct the business of the church in between the annual meetings. Every five years all of the voting members of the church select the lead pastor of IES through a voting process at the annual meeting.
